That ain't right

While at a baseball game the other day, I heard a phrase that blew my mind.

"Watch him go yard!" the person said.

Yard? Excuse me?

As a lifelong Red Sox fan and relative of those with, yes, genuine Boston accents, I had never heard this phrase uttered in, well, proper English. My familiarity with this phrase is more like this.

"Oh my gawd and then he went yaaaaaaaaaaaaaahd like wicked."

Seriously. Hearing someone say the phrase "go yard" felt so rigid. It seemed akin to sitting in the bleacher seats wearing a smoking jacket and an ascot, complaining about the inability to get a decent brandy in the ballpark.
